A Saturday workshop at the shop: what you are actually coming to do

The workshops at Adrienne's Flowers are listed alongside the bouquets: a summer hand-tie, a foam-free arrangement in a footed bowl, a seasonal session when the diary allows. They happen at the shop in Ropa Court, usually on a Saturday morning, and you leave with the flowers you have made. They are not a talk with a slide. They are a bench, a bundle of stems, and someone who does this all week standing next to you.

Adrienne started the business in 2010 in Heath and Reach and learned the craft properly before the move into Leighton Buzzard. The workshop is the same habit, slowed down. Sam and the rest of the family are often in the room. It is a small class. That is the point.

What the morning looks like

  • You arrive for the time on the listing. Late means less tying. The shop still has a counter to run.
  • We lay out the flowers for that class. You do not bring your own stems unless we have asked you to. Seasonal is what we bought.
  • A short demonstration, then you do it. A hand-tie is spiral, tie, cut, and a collar of paper or a jar. A bowl is placement, not a block of foam, on the foam-free dates.
  • You will get soil, sap, or both on your hands. A dark top is wiser than silk.
  • You take the arrangement home. A vase or a box is part of the ticket if the listing says so. Ask if you are coming by train.

Questions are the class. Why this stem is shorter. Why the rose sits off centre. Why we did not use the lily that drops pollen on a tablecloth. That is the part you cannot get from a reel.

A first attempt, a birthday booking for someone who already buys the flowers, a pair of friends on a Saturday. It is not a professional course. If you want a qualification, this is the wrong morning. If you want to tie a bunch you are not ashamed of, and to know how to recut it on Sunday, it is the right one.

Dates fill, especially before Christmas and in early summer. Book on 01525 237939 or sales@adriennesflowers.co.uk, or take the listing on the website when it is up. The shop is 11 Ropa Court, Friday Street, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 1DU. If a date is not on the site, ask. We add them when the bench and the flowers allow, not on a fixed calendar.
