The wedding consultation: what to bring, and when to book it

There is already a piece on this site about choosing wedding flowers. This one is the meeting itself. A consultation at Adrienne's Flowers is a conversation in the shop at 11 Ropa Court, or on the phone if you are out of town, where we turn a Pinterest board into stems we can get, a venue we can dress, and a price that will not move in the last fortnight.

We have done weddings since the Heath and Reach days, when the first requests were for the village. The diary now covers churches, barns and register offices around Leighton Buzzard, Linslade and further into Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The earlier the conversation, the more of the season is still ours to buy.

What to bring

  • The date, the venue, and the times. Ceremony at noon and photographs in a garden are a different install from a barn that opens at 3pm.
  • Rough numbers. Bridal party, buttonholes, centrepieces, a pedestal or none. We can refine them. We cannot quote a blank page.
  • Colours, and two photographs you actually like, not thirty. A dress fabric swatch helps. A theme word does not.
  • A budget, said out loud. Flowers scale. An honest number at the start is kinder than a redesign in May.
  • Who is allowed to change the order. One person. A bridesmaid’s extra posy the week before is how quotes break.

If the venue has rules — no candles, no foam, nothing attached to the pews — bring them. We would rather design inside the rule than unpick it on the morning.

A popular Saturday in summer should be in the diary the season before, or as soon as the venue confirms. Autumn and winter are kinder, and often better flowers. The consultation can be months out. The final numbers should be locked a few weeks before, not the Friday.

We will talk about what is in season on your date. Peonies in September are a wish, not a plan. Trusting the season is how a local wedding stays within the budget and still looks like the photographs.

You should leave with a written quote, a list of what is included, and a note of what is not: delivery, set-up, collection of vases, a cake topper. Book the consultation on 01525 237939 or sales@adriennesflowers.co.uk. The shop is open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 3pm, Saturday 9am to 2pm. Come in. The buckets are a better mood board than a screen.
